NARRATION

The only thing I’ve been passionate about longer than riding motorcycles is wildlife.

Perhaps my most favorite achievement in this lifetime is bridging these two worlds, of fueling motorcycle travel with my purpose of honoring the wild and ending the illegal wildlife trade.

I’ve been living on a motorcycle for years now, different bikes on different continents.

My journeys have all been solo. I’ve ridden nearly 60,000miles in the past 4 years, and much of that on dirt in foreign countries. People often ask if I am afraid, regardless of which country I am in. In truth, I’m far more afraid of wasting precious time here on this planet not following my heart and my passions than I am of dying while living life to the fullest.

Riding solo has offered me the opportunity to truly meet myself. To know the inner workings of my mind and how I cope with difficult situations. I’ve learned some incredibly valuable lessons along the way... Lessons of planning, timing, and understanding my surroundings.  I’ve had challenges that made me feel exhausted and fearful and moments of feeling foolish. But in those moments, I met myself. And I chose to persist. Maybe rather than “meeting myself,” it is more fitting to say that by pushing against the psychological onslaught of self-doubt and fear, I expanded beyond my own self-limiting constructs of who I perceived myself to be and of the limits of my capability.

It is through these experiences of pushing through my own self doubt that I have continued to pursue my passion of fighting against the illegal wildlife trade and telling this story while traveling alone on a motorcycle. Being on my own allows me to gain a more intimate view into the lives of others, I am welcomed as a woman, as a rider, sharing without words that I am here, exposed, vulnerable, and meaning no harm.

My passions have taken me from the wild places of Laos to those of Colombia. In these places I seek those who honor and protect the wild, while revealing the challenges and threats they endure. I hope to be a window into the world of earth and wildlife protection and not the atrocities of wildlife trafficking, too difficult for many of us to observe. By focusing on the positive - the action takers, protectors and healers - the people and projects on the frontlines of conservation, others will be inspired to support and successful initiatives can be implemented elsewhere.

I am Janelle Kaz, a Moto Gypsy, and I seek to connect people to nature, animals, and each other  because I believe that in the end, it is empathy that will truly save the threatened creatures of the  forest. Join me on my mission to stop wildlife trafficking and to remember that we are all share this planet and we are all truly wild.
